Ladylike Leather

For a while I've been craving a cute leather jacket, to which some of my friends at first laughed. I'm not exactly the first person you think of for a leather jacket with a constant wardrobe of dresses, skirts and high heels. They probably were thinking along the lines of Sandy in Grease:

No I am not making a transformation to an all leather wearing motorcycle chic look, don't fret your pretty little heads, but rather I was thinking it would look really cute over a floral sundress. Opposite themes work together and tone each other down. Anyways, when I saw my friends leather jacket and her purple moccasins I was intrigued and she granted me the favor of taking a couple quick shots.

I very much like the stitching on teh shoulder and the collar. See-leather jackets can be feminine!

Now I just have to find one...if y'all have any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated!

I'm Just Peachy

Today was rather dreary. No, it was extremely dreary. I have yet to see the sun, the roads and sidewalks were icy, and its very cold. So I dreamed of the warm and pleasant afternoons I plan to spend in Atlanta in a couple weeks and came up with this little number. Just think shirley temples, high heels, a light breeze, country music and perhaps some peach cobbler.

The neckline is a basic scoop with fringe-y ties and there is a thin brown belt for the waistline. The color is peach but my scanner did a bad job of picking it up so use your imaginations! The skirt is a bubble so it would move nicely in that light breeze. Comments are greatly appreciated and I'd love to know what you're imagining for spring.

Puttin On My Shades To Cover Up My Eyes

With sunnier days quickly approaching I've been looking into another pair of sunglasses. I'm pretty particular and usually just stick to what my friends refer to as my "bug eye" sunglasses. It is accurate to say I like oversized shades, but hey I think they're classy and I've been hooked ever since I was twelve and a sales associate at Sunglass Hut showed me a pair from Prada. Even then I was a little fashionista! (I didn't buy them since most twelve year olds dont get $300 allowances.)

Now though, while I will still frequent my bug eyes, I'm looking for a pair or two extra since I often misplace things right when I most need them, and it would be nice to have some variety.

I like these Forever XXI aviators and actually had a pair I lost last year. However, they're wonderful because I usually hate how I look in aviators, and yet, the cheapest pair I've ever tried pleases me more than even the couple hundred dollar pair I tried on for fun once. And you can't complain about affordability.

 I think the bow on these is so adorable and definitely something I would wear. I think Urban has some really great sunglasses overall right now, so I'd recomend checking them out if you're in search as I am.

 I love the retro twist on these, and that they come in fun colors rather than your typical brown or black and I think they're very summer appropriate. They make me reminisce of vintage beach babes and driving in a convertable in the sun.

Scarlett=BFF

Listen, I love Scarlett O'hara. Really, I love her. Slightly obsessed. I have read Gone with the Wind all the way through like five times, and will randomly select chapters to read just for fun all the time. I've been reading it the last two days because of C-SAPs (aka C-CRAPs, Colorado Student Abuse Program, etc) which gives lengthy amounts of time for test I usually finish early...and sometimes rush through so I can get back to the class and elegance of nineteenth century Georgia. (I am visiting Georgia in a few weeks!) And let's be real, Scarlett O'hara was such a fashion icon back then.

 This doll sparked an early obsession with Scarlett, as well as with dresses. It has a petticoat and lots of layers. I love lace and if it were shortened it would be a real cute formal dress.

 Example: Again a dress that were it shortened for modern lengths, it would be really adorable. It was like a precursor to the full skirt 60's dresses that are currently so popular.

 This sounds wierd but I've always wanted to try wearing a corset. I think it would be a very intrigueing experience.

 And is this not Oscar worthy? Especially with all the vintage gowns we saw. 

 The dress my doll was styled after. I really like the 1860's style. If only it would come back in style...not extremely promising though as it wasn't particularly practical. Then again, when it comes to fashion, what is?

And now they have Scarlett O'hara fashion for your dog!

 I really love the idea of a southern belle lifestyle. Acres of plantations, big dresses, curled hair, charming accents, and not a care in the world.

Note: Neckline seem familiar? Still very common now to have that deep and wide V. And it's miraculous how much detail was put into each dress.

Basis of the post: I love Scarlett O'hara and my obsession has been renewed by my re-re-re-re-re-reading of the book Gone with the Wind. I highly recomend it. And do y'all have book characters that you adore and also think have great style? Or is that just my inner bookworm?

Tribal and Warm

This dress is a little more out there and less traditional and classic. It came to mind with thoughts of tribal necklaces, feathers in everybody's hair, sunsets and a little bit of Lion King.

The neckline would be composed of feathers and lightweight fake stones with an onyx look. The skirt would be full and have spots that start out dark, clear cut and organized, but fade into a frenzy of black splashes here and there. The colors are like a sunset. I'd love for you to comment with what you think!

Oscar Honorables

I do make a habit of watching the Oscars, but have found I only actually pay attention at two parts. One being the big awards, of Director, Actress, Actor and overall best movie. The other being the red carpet for the sole purpose of seeing who's wearing what by whom. To start I must say I was a little dissapointed. There were a lot of pretty dresses, a couple not so pretty dresses and a lot of almost there gowns. Those ones where if they had just adjusted one thing it would have been a knockout. But there weren't any real show stopper dresses, whether they be totally outrageous that you wonder what thought process led the person to select such a frock, or ones that make you want to cry out of immense greed to wear something so extraordinary when you full well know that there is no point in this lifetime you could afford it unless you wanted to be homeless. I think Lady Gaga should go to the next Academy Awards, even though she isn't an actress just so there is a guarantee that one dress will be forever imprinted in your mind.
Anyways, here are a couple of my favorites from last night:

 Alright, this young lady had better be showing up at a lot more Oscars because I adored her dress. It was so cute and yet very classy, and she's like fourteen! I think the adults could learn something from her. (And she helped design it!) Favorite part of the dress is the tulle skirt and the light pink/purple color. I noticed there were abundance of dresses in purple this year. And red, but I didn't really like any of the red dresses to be honest.

Mila Kunis

 While there was some controversy over Mila Kunis' dress, I adored it. It has that disintegrating feel from the current Alexander McQueen line for spring. Again in purple, and oh so feminine and just pretty! I thought she looked fabulous.

Nominated for: Best Supporting Actress

 Oh Amy Adams, I've loved you ever since your first role in Enchanted. And I am quite pleased with your dress as well. It looks like you've gone swimming in saphires! I do sort of wish it was sleeveless, however it still looks very chic.

 Uhm hello vintage! I love vintage, very into it as of late and this encompasses vintage chic. The top is my favorite with the antique style lace. My one complaint is the color looks a little funny, but otherwise I'm dying to find a way to get something exactly like this...just with a shorter skirt so I can wear it casually. I haven't been invited to any balls or Oscar's lately. Pity!

Reese Witherspoon
Wearing: Armani Prive

 Reese Witherspoon is one of my all time favorite actresses and has been ever since I saw her in Legally Blonde. (Some of my friends claim I am like her character Elle, in being blonde and loving fashion. And of course, being short.) And once again she brings effortless class and beautiful elegance to her style. The dress is stunning, but her hair is my favorite. I probably would do the same with my long blonde locks were I attending the event.

Last, but most certainly not least is the lovely, and very pregnant, Natalie Portman. Another purple gown, and very nice in hiding the baby bump with layers of ethereal chiffon. I really like the off the shoulder sleeves as well. And okay, did anyone else wonder what would have happened had the excitement of winning caused her to go into early labor? I 'm just sayin it would have been a very memorable award show. If it's a boy she could have named him Oscar! Ha, okay bad joke. Anyways love her and her gown.

Hope you all had a decent Monday and did your homework instead of obsessing over the Oscars. Turns out explaining to a teacher you didn't complete the assignment due to the necessity of evaluating the fashion at the Academy Awards doesn't fly.

Five Things (But Really Six)

I am aware I have not been particularly punctual with my list of five things, and this is partially because I often times don't have my camera with me 24/7 and prefer not to throw things together with crappy pictures or lacking pictures altogether. If I post something, I like to do it to the fullest potential. That being said, I am going to do my best to start having my camera on me and doing the five things more regularly. That being said, the last couple weeks have also been a tad bit stressful and rough, causing less time for blogging and picture taking. However, here are a few things that brightened my week:
1. A summery treat on a not so summery day.

 2. A new way to style my hair thats easy, cute and fresh. Plus it gives a sort of southern belle look.

  I really enjoy curling my hair, especially now that its so long that straightening it isn't as appealing because its just long and flat without texture. However using a curling iron takes forever, and I get antsy standing there holding it to my head and feeling immobile when there are so many other things besides my hair that must get done. Hot rollers have been the perfect solution, allowing me to run around while my hair is being styled. I also like that it comes out less in ringlets and more in big volumous curls.

 4. A gift from a friend that eases my nights.
Over the last couple months I started having nightmares, which are not a great deal of fun. Though skeptical at first, I was convinced that this would do the trick. And it's cute wall decor.

 5. Sunblock, because yes, apparently you can get a sunburn in February.

 6. I do enjoy people, and I am excited to some people tonight at the academy awards! So excited for the walk down the red carpet. Glamour glamour glamour!
