Country Concert

Last night was quite possibly the best night of my young life-ever. I went to see the Miranda Lambert concert with my Young Life leader, Kara and we had pit tickets, which means I was about five feet away from my favorite artist of all time. (By the way, she is the coolest person ever.) Of course to adequately celebrate this momentous occasion I spent a nice amount of money to dress in my country best.

 Luckily my friend Alie had boots I could borrow, since I have yet to secure some of my own--Mom says it'd be a good graduation gift--and so I was plenty southern for the concert. Jerrod Niemann and Chris Young performed as opening acts and they were simply wonderful. Miranda was her awesome self and it was easily the best concert I've ever seen. One of the best parts was sharing the experience with my wonderful Young Life leader Kara!

Check List

Hello all! So remember when I said I'd be a lot better...yeah that didn't happen. I'm trying though. On my check list for getting the blog back up in running:
find camera battery charger
make time for shoots when still light out
show all the cool DIY stuff I've found

Anywho, I borrowed my best friend's camera to take a shot of my new staples for winter that coincided perfectly for my weekend up in the mountains. This is comfy. This is chic. This is laid back and effortless and above all for a snowy and cold Colorado winter, warm.

Yes indeed, my checklist for this winter is primarily focused on the following:

And let me tell you, these boots are amazing. They're brown faux leather with a heel hidden underneath and a simple sleek design that goes with everything while also very chic. And I love fun winter patterned boot socks peeking out, especially ones that add a pop of color. And it's so cozy!

Of course, I am not at all closed minded when it comes to clothes, and other must haves on my winter shopping list range from sequined everything, to infinity scarves to beaded tops and dresses. However I definitely feel that this winter is really based on effortless, laid back chic with a pop of something sparkly for more formal affairs.

I promise to try much harder, (with the exception of finals week-no promises) and I am going to try to get through some shoots and editing during my week off!

Made With Love

I admit that on days people compliment my clothing choices, I feel pretty good and get a boost in confidence. However, getting complimented on what you picked off the rack in Nordstrom is not half as satisfying as when someone compliments something you made.

Today I donned my new skirt, the skirt I made in my sewing class at AAU this summer, and got countless compliments, even from teachers. Okay, well the teacher was an LA teacher and therefore loves crosswords, but nonetheless it felt so good to get such rewarding feedback on something that was a result of my hard work and something that was a result of my imagination. I even have a few requests to make some for other people!
Each year I like to switch up my wardrobe with new themes and ideas to stick to. This year I'm going with clean chic and have also really enjoyed mixing a bunch of different patterns and prints, as well as combining things you may not think of, such as black and brown (normally cliche but can be made super chic) and combat boots with lace dresses (coming soon).

Flashback to Those Breezy Days

I've been waiting what feels like forever for my perfect 70's bohemian outfit to come together, and was so excited to show it off at a Michigan reunion party! The long skirt paired with seven inch espadrille wedges (my new babies) made me seem much, much taller than I actually am, contrary to my worry of a maxi skirt making me look shorter. The cutoff sweater was comfy and just the right feel for a summer evening. The madness of packing for San Francisco is coming to a high point as I try to make everything work, and fit in a gajillion other things I have to accomplish! AHHH! But I'll definitely be updating you on that whole episode soon. For now....

Please Don't Ever Grow Up

You know those days when you're tinkering with an outfit, and suddenly, are hit with inspiration? Then you tinker a little more, and what results is an outfit that is innovative, unique, classy, and simply to die for. That would sum up how I found this look. I love how fun it is and I admit a weakness for fluffy poofy skirts I can spin in.

Indeed friends, this was one of those outfits. My inspiration struck from the sixties era and other tulle focused pieces I'd seen. Then the epiphany of taking an old tulle skirt from dress up days came and wellah! I put the floral skirt over for a fun and popping pattern, then stuck to neutrals s that the outfit wasn't too overwhelming. The vest is great to accentuate your waist and as seen in the last picture, the blouse can be removed for hotter days.

Fun tidbit-while wearing this in a boutique the store clerk said they had a similar skirt in there for over $250! Mine was under $20! Creativity is fun for your wardrobe and helpful towards your wallet!

Momma's Girl

 A few months ago my mom bought me this nice shirt and ever since has been asking when I would wear it. I do like it, however when worn buttoned up with jeans it looks exceedingly business formal for a fifteen year old. Finally I found the perfect way to wear it, over a dress. I belted it to keep the waist and liked how the bright colors contrast with the neutral tones of the blouse. I also love the applique flowers on my shirt.
As you can see, everything is super green from all the rain we've been getting. I wasn't able to wear what I talked about in the last post because of this chilly weather but plan to soon!

Back to Those Childhood Days

 After another intense day of schoolwork, assessments and the stress of the weeks preluding finals week, I ventured to the playground to reminisce in childhood whims. While things are not quite the same (I've lost my monkey bar talent) it was a refreshing and fun photo shoot. I wore my favorite new style of high waisted shorts, these being pin striped and with adorable buttons. Paired with a lace shirt I'm fond of that has long sleeves to suffice for the brief chillier periods that come and go during the unpredictable month of May in Colorado. Of course some great accessories and my most well loved high heels and we're in business.

Southern Belles

As mentioned before I went on a trip to Georgia a couple months ago to tour UGA and adored it. I also did  a little boutique shopping and found the most adorable dress but have only recently been able to wear it due to frigid and less than Georgian temperatures. My best friend Alie also recently toured a southern school- University of Tennessee and also did some boutique shopping. Coincidently we both pulled out our southern boutique dresses on the same day and quickly decided it was indication of our future occupation as southern belles.

 Dress from Bliss {the boutique} in Knoxville, shoes from BP Nordstrom and cardigan Nordstrom. (She and I shop there a lot together.) The dress has such a beautiful blue color (perf for blondes) and the bottom is exquisite with ruffles that form roses peeking out from the hem. I loved it paired with the pale pink cardigan to create a contrast very remniscent of spring and of course, bows are the best on shoes.

 I feel awful but I do not recall the name of the boutique from which I bought this wonderful little number. It's light and airy and super feminine as its composed of a light silky slip and a thick lace crochet pattern. The ruffles are wonderful and the belt pulled it all together so my little frame didn't get lost in the fabric. I wore a Nordstrom belt and my Franco Sarto sandals.

We love the south and we love our dresses. We also love being done with the APUSH hooray! Alie has absolutely fabulous style so you can expect to see her again. Hope everyone's having a fabulous Saturday!

Let the Flowers Bloom

Forever XXI dress, Franco Sarta Shoes, watch from elementary school

 It's finally spring and feels like it! The dandelions are numerous (which I know are weeds but I absolutely adore their bright yellow faces) and even better are the result where you get to blow all the seeds! Gardeners nightmare, but for someone who LOVES wishing, it's a dream! I love this dress for its full skirt, playful springtime print (with birds) and the lace collar and back. It all has a vintage feel and is perfect for emphasizing the waist.

I've been studying like crazy with all my pre-final exams this week and my finals in three weeks! I've been mostly succesfull which is great but has left me little time for blogging. However, after this friday when I take the APUSH exam, I will be free for a little until finals arrive. With the weather improving every day, plan on man new outfits!

Got That Fifties Feelin'

 Todays weather was much improved from the last dreary week of constant rain and overcast. Taking full advantage of the sunshine and milder temperatures, I donned my newest obsession: High waisted shorts. These are just one of my many new pairs and with their lighter wash and basic denim, give me a feel of the fifties. Also: high waisted shorts are great-so flattering and so comfortable.

 Not to mention high waisted shorts with some killer heels (mine are from Chinese Laundry) make for some crazy long legs, especially if you wear a crop top, which this one happens to be my first DIY.

 Now listen. I love the new trends as much as the next person but it gets expensive keeping up wiht them, especially because I'm saving for an amazing new camera. I felt this look would not be complete without some slinky layered silver jewelry, but alas, do not have any. However, rather than fret, I chose to be resourceful. I have many short silver necklaces and so formed them together to make one long necklace I could layer.

 I also really badly wanted a crop top for these shorts. Why hide the high waist? I haven't been able to find the right one in stores as of late (though I am transforming one of my fave shirts from seventh grade into one as we speak) and so I took some scissors and turned on my tshirt to make a short, cute, DIY shirt. Hooray!
